"Read how 'The Good Life' has handpicked Red Texture Studios!" New kid on the block of South Congress and Johanna, Red Texture Studios (512-434-0101), gets this style writer's vote for "Innovation in Artist Support."
That's because owner Russell Reid and
partner-collaborator Kathleen Grandfield support themselves (he's an
artist, she, a jewelry designer) by selling their own and others'
collectible and wearable pieces of art in a gallerylike space. "We seek
out hard-to-find, unusual items from all over in an effort to support
independent artisans-especially women," says Grandfield. Handpainted and
signed silk scarves and ties share space with gorgeous jewelry, handbags
and wall art. On a recent visit, the fashionista simply couldn't take her
eyes off the Victoria Horner bags. May I suggest a visit, as you simply
have to see these bags to believe them. Surprising shapes and drop-dead
gorgeous fabrics are only the beginning when it comes to what makes
Horner's bags so special. You see, my dear, you may also order a custom
bag from the swatches available for perusal on site. And the price! This
one was shocked to learn that her favorite (that day, mind you), a
trapezoidal little number done up in Asian red silk, was only $70. Now
that's art you can live with.
